  Ancestral land clashes in Colombia

15.11.05

Police and indigenous groups clashed after Indians vowed to remain on a dozen farms seized in southwest Colombia to take back their ancestral lands.

A protester was injured during one of several confrontations where police in riot gear tried to remove Indians from the farms using tear gas, said a police officer in Caloto.

Since the hostilities began more than a week ago, dozens have been injured on both sides and a 16-year-old indigenous man was killed near Caloto, 310km southwest of Colombia's capital, Bogota.
